Aiken Psychiatric associates are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric illnesses. Common illnesses include depression, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression), schizophrenia, impulse control disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit disorder, Alzheimer’s disease and associated dementias, and post traumatic stress disorder.

An initial evaluation may also include laboratory testing, psychological testing, and imaging studies such as CT scans or MRIs or referral for other medical evaluation of possible causes of the presenting symptoms.  After the initial evaluation, a plan of treatment is developed with the patient and any involved family.  The treatment may include either medications or psychotherapy (talk therapy) or both.
